Figures revealed in the Jockey Club Annual Report have shown that turnover at the National Stud rose by £1 million last year, from £2.3m to £3.3m.

The rise also contributed to an increased annual turnover figure for the Jockey Club Estates of £7.3m, up £300,000 on the previous year.

The National Stud's operating profit for the same 12-month period amounted to £900,000, which the Jockey Club attributed in large part to the positive reception among breeders towards Time Test, who covered 110 mares, of which 38 were to breeding right holders, in a highly successful first season at stud.

The Group 2-winning son of Dubawi also had a successful first season at Little Avondale Stud in New Zealand, where he will return for the 2019 southern hemisphere season.

Boarding volumes both for mares and for spelling horses also continued to be strong, in particular in the latter part of the year.
