Teofilo recorded an across-the-card stakes double on Saturday afternoon courtesy of the victory of his son Cross Counter in Goodwood's Group 3 Gordon Stakes and daughter Crimson Rosette in the Listed Chalice Stakes at Newmarket.

Cross Counter won the 1m4f Gordon Stakes - whose previous winners include Conduit, Crystal Ocean, Harbinger, Highland Reel and Ulysses - in record time but he won't be competing for Classic honours in the St Leger next month as he is a gelding.

Trained by Charlie Appleby, Cross Counter made a successful transition from handicaps to Group company, easily accounting for Derby runner-up Dee Ex Bee.

A Godolphin homebred, Cross Counter is the second foal and second winner out of Waitress, a winner in France at three and a Listed-placed daughter of Kingmambo.

Waitress is out of the Highest Honor mare Do The Honours, who was trained for Godolphin by Saeed Bin Suroor and won the Group 3 Prix de Meautry.

She is a half-sister to Grade 1 Mother Goose Stakes third Seba and their dam Persian Secret is a Listed-winning half-sister to King's Stand Stakes heroine Cassandra Go, the dam of triple Group 1 winner Halfway To Heaven, who in turn is the dam of another three-time Group 1 heroine in Rhododendron.

Waitress has a two-year-old daughter by Farhh and a yearling filly by Epaulette.

Teofilo's black-type double was initiated by his daughter Crimson Rosette's win in the EBF-sponsored Listed contest for fillies and mares over 1m4f, the opening race of the afternoon at Newmarket.

She led home a 1-2-4 for her Kildangan Stud-based sire, with Alwaysandforever in second and Mam'Selle in fourth.

Trained by Charlie Fellowes for owner-breeder Anthony Oppenheimer, it was the third win and first stakes victory of her career for the four-year-old.

She is a three-parts sister to Astronomos, a son of New Approach who is a Listed winner and Group 3-placed in Australia. Their dam Crimson Ribbon is a winning daughter of Lemon Drop Kid and a full-sister to Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes winner Bronze Cannon and Grade 3 winner Valiant Girl. Their half-brother Across The Stars, by Sea The Stars, landed the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot.

They are out of the winning Mark Of Esteem mare Victoria Cross who is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Prize Giving. Their dam Glowing With Pride was second in the Group 2 Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster.

Teofilo was crowned European champion two-year-old following a stellar, unbeaten juvenile season that culminated with victory in the Dewhurst Stakes for his owner, breeder and trainer Jim Bolger. Injury prevented the son of Galileo from racing at three and he joined the Darley roster.

To date the 14-year-old is the sire of 14 individual Group 1 winners and Cross Counter became his 79th stakes winner. Teofilo stood for a fee of €40,000 in 2018.
