Axxos – the sire of Listed-winning hurdler Calett Mad – looks to have another talented son in Earlofthecotswolds, winner of a Market Rasen bumper on just his second start at the end of September.

The four-year-old gelding shares his trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies with Calett Mad and looks an exciting prospect for the 2018-19 season.

Despite Axxos covering limited books, with Calett Mad hailing from a group of 16 and Earlofthecotswolds from a cohort of 26, the son of Monsun has been punching above his weight in terms of quality.

Among his talented offspring on the continent are Grade 2-placed hurdler Treizor Du Pilori and Epine Noire, while his bumper scorers include dual winner Dame Du Soir, now trained by David Bridgewater in Britain.

Bred and raced by Gestut Hof Ittlingen, Axxos is by Monsun – a notable sire of jumps sires including the likes of Getaway, Network and Shirocco – and out of the Rainbow Quest mare Acerbis, another Ittlingen homebred and half-sister to the Classic-placed Agnelli, while their Group 3-winning dam Aragosta is a half-sister to the Preis der Diana runner-up Arastou.

Axxos was retired to stand in France after winning a German Group 2 and finishing second to Zambezi Sun in the Grand Prix de Paris.
