Relations to Gordon Elliott-trained stars among top August NH Sale lots

The expanded three-day Tattersalls Ireland August National Hunt Sale starts on Tuesday morning with almost 800 store horses catalogued. Grade 1 winners including Cheltenham Festival heroes Thistlecrack and Summerville Boy are recent graduates of the sale.

Leading sires Milan, Oscar, Presenting, Flemensfirth, Jeremy, Stowaway, Falco, Balko, Kayf Tara, Fame And Glory, Yeats and Sholokhov are all represented and the sale has a number of
siblings to Grade 1 winners catalogued over the three days.

Wildcard entry lot 387A is a half-brother by Derby winner Pour Moi to one of the star novice chasers of last season in Shattered Love.

Catalogue and results

Trained by Gordon Elliott for Gigginstown House Stud, the daughter of Yeats won the Grade 1 Neville Hotels Novice Chase at Leopardstown’s Christmas Festival and followed that up with success in the JLT Novices' Chase at Cheltenham.

Consigned by Greenville House Stud, who also sold Shattered Love for €50,000 at the 2015 Derby Sale, the gelding is also a half-brother to Grade 2 Charlie Hall Chase winner Irish Cavalier and the Grade 2-winning hurdler Make A Track. Their dam, Tracker, is a half-sister to Champion Hurdle hero Make A Stand.

The Storyteller beat Shattered Love in the Grade 1 Growise Champion Novice Chase at the Punchestown Festival in April and Hobby Horse Stud consigns his three-year-old half-sister by Beat Hollow on behalf of Rowena Cotton. The Storyteller was one of eight Cheltenham Festival winners trained by Gordon Elliott last season, and lot 424 is also a half-sister to three further winners.

Continuing the Elliott Grade 1 winners connection at the August National Hunt Sale is lot 103, a half-brother to his 2017 Supreme Novices' Hurdle winner Labaik, one of three winners so far out of the winning Choisir mare Avanguardia. Peter Nolan consigns her three-year-old gelding by Falco, named Falco Lux, a full-brother to successful three-year-old hurdler in France, Aiguille Rouge. Their second dam, Anthurium, is a half-sister to Arcadio, Germany's
champion three-year-old colt of 2005 and National Hunt stallion at Arctic Tack Stud in County Wexford.

Lot 352 is a son of the aforementioned Arcadio and a half-brother to Grade 1 performers Bright New Dawn and Lyrical Theatre out of the Bob Back mare Shuil Dorcha. Her Fame And Glory colt sold for €70,000 at last year’s November National Hunt Sale. Consigned by
Roxborough Stud, who purchased the gelding as a yearling for €18,000, he comes from the family of Stayers' Hurdle heroine Shuil Ar Aghaidh and dual Grade 1 winner Trafford Lad.

A three-parts sister to another Stayers' Hurdle winner in 2015 victor Cole Harden will sell as lot 110 from Walshstown Stud. Bred, like Cole Harden, by Jill O’Callaghan, the daughter of Westerner shares her sire with the Grade 1 hurdler and is the first foal out of his Milan half-sister Ballyhindon Castle. Their dam Nosie Betty is a full-sister to Mr Nosie who won the Grade 1 Deloitte Novice Hurdle, and the Grade 2 Future Champions Novice Hurdle, both at Leopardstown.

Lough Na Sollis Stud consigns lot 123, an Oscar full-brother to The Tullow Tank, who won the Future Champions Novice Hurdle and the Royal Bond Novice Hurdle.

The three-year-old is also a three-parts brother to Oliver Sherwood and Trevor Hemmings' ill-fated Grand National hero Many Clouds, by Cloudings.

Mount Corbitt Stud offers a four-year-old daughter of Oscar who is very well-related as a three-parts sister to Gold Cup and RSA Chase winner Lord Windermere. Lot 372 is the first foal out of Sycamore Island, twice a winner in point-to-points, and a Fairy King half-sister to the son of Oscar and dual Cheltenham Festival hero for Jim Culloty and Dr Ronan Lambe.

She is also a half-sister to Sub Lieutenant, twice a winner at Grade 2 level and placed six times so far in Grade 1 contests. It is also the family of Queen Mother winner Rathgorman.
