There was plenty to celebrate for Welsh stud Llety Farms in the result of the Listed Shadwell Stud/EBF Stallions Harry Rosebery Stakes at Ayr on Friday.

Dave Dexter, who prevailed by a neck in the five-furlong contest for juveniles, was bred by David Hodge's Carmarthenshire operation from home stallion Stimulation. Moreover, there is a yearling half-sister coming on to the market next month.

The Ralph Beckett-trained Dave Dexter, who was stepping out of nursery company into his first black-type test at Ayr, is the third foal out of the winning Verglas mare Blue Crest, making him a brother to the talented handicapper My Amigo and half-brother to all-weather winner Mimic's Memory.

The dam, a half-sister to continental stakes performers Grey Dancing, Ideal Coco and Private Dancer, has a Brazen Beau filly who is being consigned as lot 1,476 to Book 3 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.

She also has a Stimulation colt foal, and she was covered by The Last Lion this year.

Dave Dexter – bought by agent Alex Elliott for 32,000gns from Book 3 – is the second stakes winner for Stimulation after Sagaro Stakes heroine Sweet Selection.

The stallion, a Group 2-winning son of Choisir, is also responsible for Windsor Castle Stakes runner-up Union Rose and Duchess of Cambridge Stakes third Tongue Twista, as well as the improving sprinter Under The Covers.

Stimulation stands at Llety Farms with his fee on application.

It has been a fine year for Hodge, as he is also the breeder of last Friday's Flying Childers Stakes winner Soldier's Call.
