Kildangan Stud resident Buratino got off the mark on Wednesday when Tinochio became his first winner with a ready success over five furlongs in the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes at Hamilton.

Tinochio, who was bred by John Malone and trained by Kevin Ryan, was always up with the pace and having taken over approaching the final furlong, he scorched clear to carry the Hambleton Racing silks to a three-length victory.

The Strath Burn colt Burning Cash was back in second, with Kodiac's Boogie Time a further length and a quarter away in third.

The colt was bought by Ryan and his long-time sales ring ally Stephen Hillen for £35,000 at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale, where he was consigned by Sherbourne Lodge. That was Tinochio's second appointment with the auctioneer, having fetched €20,000 from KSM Bloodstock at the Goffs November Foal Sale.

He is the tenth foal out of Endless Peace, a daughter of Russian Revival who has bred five other winners, including the useful Haxby, who now races in Hong Kong under the name Beauty Kingdom. In turn, Endless Peace is a half-sister to classy sprinters Hoh Mike and Hogmaneigh.

The dam also has a yearling filly by The Last Lion, who was bought by Clonmult Farm for €7,000 at the Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale.

Tinochio is one of 88 two-year-olds in Buratino's debut crop, which was conceived at a fee of €5,000.

Darley's homebred son of Exceed And Excel retired to stud with four victories to his name, including the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom and the Coventry Stakes, in which he saw off Air Force Blue by two lengths.

He went on to confirm himself as one of the best of his generation when third to the re-opposing Air Force Blue in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes before he finished a half-length runner-up to Shalaa in the Middle Park Stakes.

Buratino is one of five winners out of the Kingmambo mare Bergamask, who in turn is out of a Listed-winning half-sister to Danehill Dancer, a champion on the track at two and at stud.

Some 40 members of Buratino's debut crop sold at last year's yearling sales, with the bunch averaging £11,405.

The priciest of those was a colt out of Opportuna who went the way of Armando Duarte at £60,000.
