Highland Reel sires first three home in Tipperary juvenile hurdle

Multiple Group 1 winner Highland Reel had the distinction of siring the first three home in the juvenile hurdle which opened the card at Tipperary this afternoon.

Coolmore's first season sire was responsible for three hurdling newcomers in the Junction Three-Year-Old Maiden Hurdle and they duly filled the first three places home with Tory Reel for Andrew McNamara beating Mr Globalist by a length and a quarter. There were seven lengths back to the Gordon Elliott-trained favourite Chargo in third.

Tory Reel made his debut in a mile maiden at Tipperary last October but remained winless in four starts on the Flat prior to his switch to hurdles.

Bred by Paget Bloodstock, he is out of Erytheis a dual winner at two by Theatrical. She is the dam of two winners by Monsun; Energizer who was successful in the Tercentenary Stakes at Royal Ascot and Exchange Rate, who won on the Flat, in a bumper and over hurdles for Willie Mullins.

Tory Reel was sold by The Castlebridge Consignment as a yearling for 13,000gns to John Murphy and Andrew McNamara at Tattersalls Book 3.

Highland Reel won seven top-level contests around the world and is a Galileo brother to Caulfield Stakes winner Cape Of Good Hope, Group 2 winner Idaho and Cercle De La Vie, dam of last season's Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere winner Angel Bleu.

His dam Hveger was third in the Australasian Oaks and is a Danehill sister to Caulfield Cup winner Elvstroem and a half-sister to Haradasun, who won the Queen Anne Stakes.

Retired to stud for a fee of €17,500, Highland Reel is the sire of juvenile Group 2 winner Atamisque from his first crop.
