In Swoop, the winner of last year's German Derby and runner-up to Sottsass in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, will stand under Coolmore's National Hunt banner for 2022.

The Stall Ullmann-bred son of the late Adlerflug won on his debut at three before finishing third in the Prix Greffulhe on his second start and then tasting Classic success when leading home a one-two for his sire in the 151st Deutsches Derby at Hamburg last year.

Trained by Francis Graffard in France, the colt was then second to Mogul in the Grand Prix de Paris before producing a career-best effort when narrowly denied by Sottsass in Europe's most valuable prize at Longchamp.

Having returned to action at four this year, the handsome bay was second on his seasonal reappearance in the Listed Prix Lord Seymour before adding two further Group-race wins to his laurels in the Prix d'Hedouville and Grand Prix de Chantilly.

What proved to be his final start ended in a staying-on fourth behind Broome in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud last month, and his retirement had been announced earlier this month due to a career-ending injury.

The eighth foal out of Gestut Schlenderhan's Preis der Diana winner Iota, In Swoop is a brother to German Group 1 winner and now Gestut Erftmuhle resident Ito, as well as a half-sibling to two further stakes performers in Iniciar and Igraine, both by Galileo.

"In Swoop is the 19th German Derby winner owned and bred by the Von Ullmann family, who also bred and raced both his German Derby-winning sire and German Oaks-winning dam," said Coolmore's Joe Hernon, who negotiated the purchase.

"He's a striking horse from one of Europe's leading farms and was rated the best three-year-old of his generation over a mile and a half.

"The Von Ullmann family also provided us with Getaway, who has proven a resounding success with Irish breeders, and we are very grateful to them."

Adlerflug, who died at the age of 17 in April, had been standing for a career-high fee of €16,000 at Schlenderhan in Bergheim, Germany.

The son of In The Wings has five individual top-flight winners, that roll of honour containing not just In Swoop and Ito but Preis der Diana heroine Lacazar, Iquitos and Torquator Tasso.

His progeny have been enjoying another fine year in 2021, with King Edward VII Stakes winner and Juddmonte International runner-up Alenquer and German 2,000 Guineas scorer Mythico leading the way.

A fee for In Swoop will be announced at a later date.
