Three weeks after Pinatubo routed the field to win the Group 2 Vintage Stakes at Goodwood, another two-year-old son of Shamardal showed his class with Earthlight grinding out victory over the Slade Power filly Raffle Prize in the Darley Prix Morny at Deauville on Saturday.

A Godolphin homebred, Earthlight is the 23rd top-level winner for his sire - who stands in a private capacity at Kildangan Stud in Ireland - and the first to be produced by a New Approach mare, having been bred out of the Fillies' Mile third Winters Moon.

The mare is one of four stakes performers out of the Group 3 Prix des Reservoirs winner Summertime Legacy along with the Criterium de Saint-Cloud scorer Mandaean and Prix Saint-Alary heroine Wavering, both winners at the highest level.

Winters Moon also has a yearling Dubawi filly and a Shamardal filly foal, while Earthlight remains entered in the Middle Park and Dewhurst Stakes.

Breeders hoping to tap into the Shamardal sire-line will have a new opportunity next year with his son Blue Point having been retired to stand alongside his sire at Kildangan next year.
