Emily Blazing a trail for a smart family with hurdles win at Listowel

Mare's dam was the Galway Plate scorer Blazing Tempo

Blazing Tempo was no stranger to festival success in Ireland and her first foal got in on the act as Blazing Emily registered an emphatic first victory over obstacles at Listowel’s week-long jamboree.

The dam has switched from the umbrella of one of Willie Mullins’ significant owners to another, as she spent much of her career running for Rich and Susannah Ricci.

Although her main moment in the sun came when providing Mullins with an elusive Galway Plate win in 2011, she took numerous graded chases along the way.

Retired in 2013, she is now part of the project of Kenny Alexander, the chief executive of GVC Holdings who has broodmares with Peter Molony's Rathmore Stud and some useful mares in training headed by the exciting Honeysuckle.

Blazing Emily, who is by Presenting, is the only one to be seen so far. Now five, she made her debut in an Irish point for Paurick O’Connor in May 2018 and began her time under Rules with Mullins by landing a Ballinrobe bumper 12 months later.

She could not quite complete a family affair at Galway when failing to catch Rocket Lad but was a hot property in the betting on her debut over timber in the Jet O'Carroll Memorial Irish EBF Mares Maiden Hurdle.

Aside from a stumble after the second last, she was untroubled in front all the way to come home four and a quarter lengths clear.

Blazing Tempo’s subsequent four progeny have all been colts, and Alexander has two Shantous, a Shirocco yearling and a Champs Elysees foal to look forward to in the coming years.
