The Duchess of Cornwall has been appointed the first ever patron of the National Stud in Newmarket.

An honorary member of the Jockey Club since December 2015, the Duchess is a keen follower of equestrian sports, including racing, and is a frequent visitor to Britain's racecourses.

In May, she was pictured with Invincible Spirit during a visit to the Irish National Stud and senior Jockey Club steward Roger Weatherby is hopeful this new royal partnership can prove a positive not only for the National Stud, which has been a part of the Jockey Club since 2008, but also the Duchess's other patronages.

"We are honoured Her Royal Highness has accepted our invitation to become the first patron of the National Stud," he said. "We greatly appreciate her support for an organisation which plays such an important role in Britain’s thoroughbred breeding industry and training the next generation of stud staff and leaders.

"The Duchess’s love of horses and horseracing is well known, and we would like to build relationships between the National Stud and Her Royal Highness’s other equestrian and education patronages, including Ebony Horse Club."

The National Stud last month released details of its 2019 stallion roster, which has been boosted by the additions of Rajasinghe and Lancaster Bomber.
