National Stud resident Rajasinghe sired his first winner on Monday, when Waiting All Night rather belied his name when scoring first time out at Wolverhampton.

Owned and bred by Phil Cunningham, Waiting All Night is the third foal out of Goodnightsuzy, whose only career victory came at two when she was successful in a Haydock novice event for Chasemore Farm and Ed Walker.

Goodnightsuzy, now ten, was picked up for just 2,000gns at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale of 2020, and her first foal, Grace Plunkett, by Brazen Beau, was likewise a winner for the Cunningham and Richard Spencer combination at Wolverhampton.

Waiting All Night was ridden by double Guineas-winning jockey James Doyle on his debut on Monday to win by three-quarters of a length at 12-1 in a field of 11 over five furlongs.

His sire was also a winner on the all-weather at the first time of asking, and followed that with victory in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot in a record-breaking time.

Rajasinghe subsequently ran third in the July Stakes at Newmarket but was then unable to cut any ice when tried in Group 1 company, finishing down the field in Saxon Warrior's 2,000 Guineas, which turned out to be his final start.

He was retired to the National Stud, initially at a £5,000 fee, but has stood the last couple of seasons at £3,000.

By the great Australian sprinter Choisir - also the sire of course of Starspangledbanner - he is a half-brother to six other winners out of Bunditten.

Bred by James and Geoff Mulcahy, Rajasinghe was picked up for €65,000 by Trickledown Stud as a foal at Goffs November, and was then signed for at £85,000 by Bobby O'Ryan and Cunningham's Rebel Racing at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale in 2016.
