Held up towards rear, headway to chase leaders from 2 out where not fluent, soon no impression, mistake and kept on same pace from last (trainer said, regarding running and riding, he told rider to drop his mount in about three quarters way back, keep wide on the better ground and be aware that his mount has plenty of speed, and to ride him with confidence and do his best, adding that gelding was having his fifth run in about 40 days, his most recent run being two days ago at Gowran Park where he won easily (ridden by R. Walsh) and for which he received an 18lb penalty; he told the stewards that he ran tonight simply because he was 12lb better off in the weights and had apparently recovered from his recent run but in hindsight he felt that gelding had possibly gone over the top and consequently struggled to handle the ground; he felt that his charge had every chance at the fourth last hurdle even with plenty of ground to make up but off the final bend he flattened and could not pass the horse ahead of him; jockey confirmed the orders and said he was happy with his position at the second-last but his mount flattened out when squeezed and slapped down the shoulder and put in a tired jump at the last and was well beaten at the finish; he felt the trainer's expectations did not materialise as his mount was lifeless in the closing stages and had struggled on the ground around the final bends; vet said gelding was found to be blowing hard post-race.)
