Robbie Wilders' play of the day at Ayr
Knights Affair
9.00 Ayr
Tafsir is the forecast favourite for the concluding 1m5f handicap (9.00) at Ayr, but can be taken on as she always leaves herself vulnerable in these contests due to her style of racing.
Staying races are often run at a slower tempo and Tafsir is generally held up in last, conceding first run to better-positioned rivals on the dash for home.
She has the form to win this, but her ideal set of circumstances may not be forthcoming and a chance is taken on unexposed four-year-old Knights Affair for David O'Meara. The topweight could be a class apart.
The gelded son of Bated Breath has shown enough promise in maidens to suggest he can be competitive off a mark of 67 if you ignore his two disappointing efforts when the ground was testing.
He shaped well when second to Wood Ditton runner-up Kathab on his debut at Ripon and didn't handle the track or trip when dropped back to 7f at Catterick before rallying for third place in a 1m3f Southwell contest.
There is almost definitely more to come from Knights Affair in staying races and he can maintain the good recent form of O'Meara with Danny Tudhope back on board.
