The Listed Spring Cup (3.20) is the feature race on Lingfield's card and Orne might be hard to beat after a big run in Qatar last month.
The son of Acclamation was a Group 3 winner as a juvenile in the Horris Hill Stakes at Newmarket and his subsequent run in a local Group 2 race at Doha is worth upgrading.
He was forced wide throughout the first two thirds of the contest and was then caught in a pocket when travelling as well as any of his rivals on the turn for home. To compound matters, he was forced to concede first run to the eventual winner and while he made up plenty of ground late to pick up second place, the bird had already flown.
Orne's trainers John and Thady Gosden won the race last year and the latest running looks like a solid piece of form, with a progressive Wathnan Racing rival back in third.
It's worth noting Orne's two previous wins came at this shorter trip and while he has to concede weight to all of his rivals here, he can resume progress back down in class with a little more luck in running.
