Superb Sheehan and busy Loughnane - the stats to help your Wednesday punting
There are four meetings on Wednesday, with Newcastle, Catterick and Kempton providing the action in Britain and Fairyhouse the destination for the card in Ireland. Here are statistics from each track which could help your punting . . .
Catterick
Gavin Sheehan has an excellent 45 per cent strike-rate – 13 wins from 29 rides – when riding at Catterick in the last five seasons and he has two mounts today.
Starevitch is a point winner over three miles and steps up in distance on his second start over hurdles for Jamie Snowden (2.15). Sheehan's other ride is also for the Lambourn trainer when Git Maker bids for his second win in a row at the course (3.45). He impressed to win by six and a half lengths on New Year's Day but has only been put up 1lb by the handicapper.
Fairyhouse
Backing runners trained by Gordon Elliott blindly at a course would not normally yield a profit, such is the respect bookmakers afford the leading handler's contenders. But Fairyhouse has been a happy hunting ground for Elliott this season with 15 winners from 62 runners. Any punter backing each of them with a £1 would already be £21.25 richer and he has six more chances today.
Three Card Brag (1.53) and So Des Flos (3.53) are likely to be short enough, while Elliott is also double-handed in the 2.23 (Neigh Botha and Firm Footings) and the 2.53 (Fruit Bottom and Granos Girl).
Kempton
Clive Cox has his team in rude health with three winners from his last six runners. He is represented in just one race at Kempton (6.00) but runs two, Special Times and Faithful Spirit.
Special Times is back down to a mile after seemingly not getting home over 1m3f at this course last time, while Faithful Spirit finished third in a 0-70 over course and distance two starts ago. This is a 0-55 and possibly an excellent opportunity.
Newcastle
Billy Loughnane is a young man very much in the headlines in recent weeks and the 5lb claimer heads to Newcastle for four rides – Aurora Dawn (2.00), Zealot (2.30), Imperial Command (3.00) and Wiccan (4.00).
Wiccan is forecast to be favourite in the concluding 6f handicap, but Loughane's best chance could be on Zealot. His four-race winning streak came to an end at Southwell on Monday, but this is easier and he is effectively running off 5lb lower thanks to the rising apprentice star's claim.
Before Tuesday night's card at Southwell, Loughnane had ridden 13 winners from 50 rides in the last fortnight.
