There were lots of impressive winners at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival, but if you were to poll 10,000 racing fans I doubt anyone would vote for You Wear It Well's dominant performance in the Mares' Novices' Hurdle.

She didn't put a foot wrong and came home well clear of lots of decent performers including Luccia, who has won a big handicap hurdle this season. You Wear It Well was below par against the boys at Aintree's National meeting but still finished ahead of Grade 1 winner Crambo, and she has looked better than ever this season.

At Wetherby she once again beat Luccia away without too many problems on decent ground over 2m, and on the back of that she started 5-4 to win the rearranged Fighting Fifth at Sandown. However, she was never in her comfort zone on tacky ground and didn't jump as well as she can, but I've been waiting for her to step up in trip and 3m½f on decent ground in the Grade 2 SBK Warfield Mares' Hurdle at Doncaster (2.35) might well be her perfect conditions given her pedigree. Furthermore, she goes really well fresh, so her 50-day absence is a bonus and trainer Jamie Snowden continues to have an amazing season.

The opposition is pretty stiff and if Marie's Rock returns to her best she will be hard to beat, but she hasn't looked in great form in two runs this season, nor has Theatre Glory. West Balboa was really disappointing at Ascot last time and the biggest danger might be Tweed Skirt, who scooted clear when upped to 3m½f over fences at Kempton last time.

The other horse who ran well at the festival last season worth a second look on Sunday is Sandor Clegane in the Finlay Ford At Naas Novice Chase (2.45). He has become something of a forgotten horse but he stayed on best of all behind Stay Away Fay in the Albert Bartlett. On that day Embassy Gardens, who is likely to be a short price for this race, was pulled up and Letsbeclearaboutit was a few lengths behind and is 6lb worse off here.

The question is whether Sandor Clegane can be as good a chaser as a hurdler, and he certainly hasn't shown that in two starts over fences, but he wasn't disgraced last time in a funny race at Punchestown and the one thing we know about him is that the bigger the stamina test the better he will be. Going left-handed will suit him a lot better than Fairyhouse or Punchestown and he has a tongue-tie on for the first time too.

His trainer Paul Nolan went agonisingly close to winning the National Hunt Chase with Discorama in 2019 and I reckon Sandor Clegane can put himself in line for a shot at that race.

Some Scope is an interesting horse, and while he doesn't have any Cheltenham targets this season he might get there in the future as he's still only six and he won a competitive staying chase at Catterick in November. The form of that race has worked out nicely and Some Scope will surely be rated a lot higher than his current mark of 115 before his career is over. The ground should be perfect for him at Doncaster and he stands out as the unexposed horse in the SBK Handicap Chase (1.25).
