The Turners Novices’ Chase, run in recent years as the Marsh or JLT Chase, is the first race on day three of the Cheltenham Festival. It is one of three Grade 1 novice chases at the meeting and attracts runners who are best over the intermediary distance of 2m4f. First run in 2011, it has unearthed some of the best chasers of recent years including Sir Des Champs, Yorkhill, Vautour and Defi De Seuil. STAGE STAR looked to have plenty to find with the two at the head of the market, but was allowed to dictate, with the pace only quickening after three out, ultimately powering up the hill for a comprehensive win. Mighty Potter was outpaced when the dash for home began, and Notlingtillmay couldn’t reel in the winner.
