Adaptability has been a hallmark as Donald McCain’s career has ascended in the decade or so since he took over from his household name father Ginger.

Not only has he established Bankhouse as the most powerful jumps operation in the north, he has finished in the top three in the seasonal standings, upheld family honour in the Grand National and recovered from the punishing blow of losing 60-odd horses belonging to Paul and Clare Rooney in 2015.

Horses are required to fuel ambitions and a slightly less conventional idea formed with major owner Tim Leslie is starting to pay off too.
