Tepin's half-brother Harvard heads to school at Leopardstown
Galileo colt starts off in the opening event on Friday afternoon
Tepin’s sole appearance on European soil left a lasting impression as she broke new ground for North America in landing the 2016 Queen Anne at Royal Ascot.
Without her usual racing apparatus and tackling far softer going than usual, she showed laudable determination in holding off Belardo by half a length.
It impressed Coolmore enough that by the following year the operation acquired the Breeders’ Cup Mile and multiple Grade 1 winner for $8,000,000 - quite a step up from the $140,000 that owner Robert Masterson had bought her for at Fasig-Tipton five years earlier. Arriving in foal to Curlin, she has since produced a filly by Galileo.
At Leopardstown on Friday Coolmore and Aidan O’Brien will unveil Tepin’s Galileo half-brother, the loftily-named Harvard, in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.
Life Happened, an unraced Stravinsky mare, arrived in Ireland in the year of Tepin’s exploits and has been covered by the superstar on three occasions already with a yearling brother on the ground.
Along with Tepin, she has produced the smart US miler Vyjack while her War Front three-year-old Repossession, bought for $750,000 at Fasig-Tipton, has made one inauspicious start to date.
Harvard starts off in a race confined to newcomers over seven furlongs and is joined by Galileo stablemate High Definition, a full brother of last year’s Beresford winner and Vertem Futurity runner-up Innisfree.
Jessica Harrington saddles another interesting transatlantic arrival in Rascal House, a Distorted Humor colt from Keeneland who had initially been entered for the breeze-ups.
