Girvin retired to Ocala Stud in Florida
Girvin, winner of last year's Haskell Invitational Stakes, has been retired and will stand the 2019 breeding season at Ocala Stud in Florida.
Owners Brad and Misty Grady of Grand Oaks Farm have partnered with Kentucky-based Airdrie Stud, in a deal structured by West Bloodstock, to co-own the son of Tale Of Ekati through his stallion career.
“We’ve been big fans of Mr Grady’s horse for a long time and are hugely appreciative of the opportunity he’s given us to partner on his stallion career,” said Airdrie Stud's Brereton Jones.
“Girvin was a tremendously talented racehorse who was versatile enough to outsprint his rivals at two and stretch out to win the Louisiana Derby and Haskell at three, and he’s as gorgeous as he is gifted.
"Between the Grady family, the O’Farrell family and Airdrie Stud, there will not be a better-supported horse standing in Florida this season. We wholeheartedly believe Girvin’s going to reward us for it.”
In his sole outing this year at four, Girvin was runner-up to eventual Met Mile winner Bee Jersey in the Steve Sexton Mile at Lone Star Park and he retires with earnings of $1,624,392.
Bred in Kentucky by Bob Austin and John Witte, he is out of the Malibu Moon mare Catch The Moon and is a half-brother to Iroquois Stakes winner Cocked And Loaded.
Jeu St Eloi on the move to Cercy
Haras de Cercy, which suffered the death of its leading young sire Vision D'Etat this year, has gained the services of another up-and-coming name in Jeu St Eloi.
A first son of the popular jumps stallion Saint Des Saints to retire to stud, Jeu St Eloi has covered books of 120, 110 and 94 mares in his first three seasons at Haras de l'Abbaye.
Jeu St Eloi failed to win in six starts for Guillaume Macaire but showed useful form.
His popularity lies in the fact he is by a revered sire and is a half-brother to the Grade 1-winning chaser Oculi. He hails from the family of Balko, the sire of Ryanair Chase hero Balko Des Flos.
A fee has yet to be decided but he has stood at €1,800 since he retired to stud.
Gestut Rottgen to stand multiple Group 3 winner
Millowitsch, a seasoned performer in Germany's premier sprint and mile races, is to take up stallion duties at Gestut Rottgen next year.
The Markus Klug-trained son of Sehrezad - a stallion by Titus Livius - has landed five Group 3 races and on his most recent start was fourth in the Group 2 Goldene Peitsche at Baden-Baden last month.
Millowitsch was bred by his owner Alexandra Margarete Renz out of the Group 3-placed Fath mare Muriel, making him a half-brother to the stakes-placed pair Ming Jung and Maha Kumari.
He stays in training this season before joining Rottgen, the breeders and owners of the half-brothers who have won the last two renewals of the German Derby, Windstoss and Weltstar.
