Godolphin's Beyond Reason provides Coolmore's Australia with first Group winner

Godolphin's shift away from its long-held policy of not buying horses by Coolmore stallions produced a noteworthy success on Saturday as Beyond Reason won the Group 3 Prix Six Perfections at Deauville.

Ironically, the filly's victory in the famous Godolphin blue provided Coolmore's Australia, a dual Derby-winning son of Galileo whose first crop hit the track this year, with his first stakes winner.

The Paget Bloodstock-bred filly was signed for by Rabbah Bloodstock for 370,000 guineas at Book 1 of last year's Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and broke her maiden at Kempton before finishing fourth in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot last month.

Having raced in a perfect position in third in Saturday's seven furlong contest, Beyond Reason showed a tremendous attitude, firstly in grinding her way past the favourite Spirit Of Brittany and then in repelling the determined effort of the eventual runner-up Devant.

On pedigree, Beyond Reason should continue to improve for stepping up in trip, not only being by an outstanding middle distance performer in Australia but also being out of the Azamour mare No Explaining, herself a Grade 3 winner over a mile and a half.

Godolphin spent more than 6,000,000 guineas on the produce of Coolmore stallions at Book 1 last October, including on the sale-topping Gloam, a daughter of Galileo and the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf winner Dank.

They also signed for the second-top lot at the Goffs Orby Sale, a Galileo filly out of L'Amour de Ma Vie consigned by Ballylinch Stud, who fetched €1.2 million.

Beyond Reason's success is not the first enjoyed by Godolphin this year with the progeny of a sire son of Galileo, and certainly not the most significant, with New Approach's son Masar having delivered a prized Derby success earlier in the summer.

War Command also on the board for Coolmore

Australia was not the only Coolmore sire to notch a first stakes winner on Saturday as War Front's son War Command also got on the board courtesy of Victory Command's win in the Listed Wooldridge Group Pat Eddery Stakes at Ascot.

Already a three-time winner from six starts, the Mark Johnston-trained colt stepped into stakes company for the first time and was always on top, scoring by two lengths from Glorious Lover under Silvestre De Sousa.

Victory Command races in his trainer's colours and pays a fine tribute to his judgement as well, Johnston having to go to only 6,000 guineas to secure him from the Platinum Bloodstock draft of the Tattersalls December Yearling Sale.
