With some 791 lots to sift through, studying the catalogue for Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale can be a mammoth task, and, with so much high-quality racing taking place, pedigrees are being enhanced on a daily basis.

To ease the workload, we've picked out five of the most significant pedigree updates among the Book 2 lots.

Lot 585

B c Lope De Vega - Shemya (Dansili)
Consigned by Langton Stud

Cormorant was among the leading lights at last year's renewal of Book 1, with MV Magnier parting with 1,050,000gns for the son of Kingman. That colt, merely listed as placed in the Book 2 catalogue, joined the Ballydoyle ranks and opened his account at the second time of asking, before not being beaten far behind Mogul in the Group 2 KPMG Champions Juvenile Stakes.

With his half-brother being by another exciting young sire in Lope De Vega, the Langton Stud-consigned lot looks every inch the part on paper. This colt is the third foal out of Shemya, a winning daughter of Dansili, meaning he is bred on the same cross as Grade 1 winner Capla Temptress and the smart juvenile Lope Y Fernandez, who was added to the Coolmore ranks at a cost of €900,000.

Lot 803

B c Camelot - Beach Frolic (Nayef)
Highclere Stud

Palace Pier is listed as unraced on this colt's catalogue page, but has since announced himself as one of the most exciting two-year-olds of the season. The son of Kingman was picked up by John Gosden for 600,000gns at Book 1 last year and has gone a long way to justifying such a price-tag with two bloodless successes.

Those two Sandown romps, gained with an aggregate winning distance of eight and a quarter lengths, have made Palace Pier around a 14-1 shot for next year's Qipco 2,000 Guineas, and look certain to see the spotlight fall on this son of Camelot when he's offered late on Monday evening.

Bred by Highclere Stud and the late Duke of Roxburghe's Floors Farming, the colt is out of a Nayef half-sister to Dante Stakes scorer Bonfire and the Group 2-winning Joviality.

Lot 892

B c Kingman - Cruck Realta (Sixties Icon)
Oghill House Stud

When Rose Of Kildare went through the ring at last year's sales, the daughter of Make Believe fetched just €3,000 from Mark Johnston's son, Charlie. However, her recent exploits have proved the valuation massively underestimated her innate talent.

The hugely progressive filly, who is out of a Listed-winning daughter of Sixties Icon, has won five of her 12 starts, and has landed the Group 3 Firth of Clyde and Oh So Sharp Stakes since the Book 2 catalogue was released. Such major updates should ensure that her half-brother proves rather more popular when he comes under the hammer.

As if those pedigree updates weren't enough, Rose Of Kildare's half-brother is by sire of the moment Kingman, who has been represented by the likes of Persian King, Calyx and Headman this season. The son of Invincible Spirit's yearlings were in high demand at Book 1, where the 29 sold averaged 382,655gns and for turnover of 11,097,000gns.

Those sales were led by the 2,300,000gns colt out of Grace And Favour bought by Godolphin, and the 1,800,000gns son of One Last Dance bought by MV Magnier.

Lot 1,239

B c Showcasing - Overturned (Cape Cross)
Whatton Manor Stud

Alligator Alley caused quite a stir when selling to Sackville Donald for 100,000gns at last year's edition of Book 2, and his form on the track since should ensure his half-brother also has plenty of fans when he comes on the market on Wednesday.

That son of Kingman won his maiden by five lengths and also finished second to Liberty Beach in the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes, and then went on to produce a remarkable last-to-first display to win the Listed Roses Stakes.

That success means his Showcasing half-brother is now related to two black-type winners, with his dam having also produced Chinese Art, a Listed winner in Macau. The page has also received some notable updates further back too, as this is the same family as leading two-year-old filly Raffle Prize.

Lot 1,312

B f Muhaarar - Reckoning (Danehill Dancer)
New England Stud

When the Book 2 catalogue went to print, this filly was a half-sister to two winners, including the progressive three-year-old Sir Ron Priestley.

That son of Australia has enhanced the claims of his younger sibling no end since, not only landing the Group 3 March Stakes but bringing some Classic form to the page with a valiant runner-up effort behind Logician in the St Leger.

She is from the second crop of brilliant sprinter Muhaarar, sire of 12 two-year-old winners this season and whose yearlings have fetched as much as 925,000gns.
