Fairyland confirms Kodiac's domination of the Lowther Stakes

Kodiac confirmed himself a force to be reckoned with when it comes to the Lowther Stakes at York, with Fairyland holding on to become his third winner in five years on Thursday.

The Tally-Ho Stud sire previously got on the scoresheet with Tiggy Wiggy (2014) and Besharah ('15), meaning he has gone one better than his half-brother Invincible Spirit who has two on the roll of honour with Hooray ('10) and Rosdhu Queen ('12).

The Aidan O'Brien-trained Fairyland narrowly held on by a nose from the fast-finishing Society Rock filly The Mackem Bullet, completing a one-two for fillies bred by Tally-Ho.

Fairyland realised 925,000gns - the highest sum paid for a yearling by the sire - at last year's Book 1 at Tattersalls when she was knocked down to MV Magnier, Mayfair Speculators and Peter and Ross Doyle.

She is one of two Group winners out of the unraced Pivotal mare Queenofthefairies, who also produced Now Or Never - a Pattern winner in both hemispheres courtesy of wins in the 1,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown and a 7f Group 2 at Flemington.

Queenofthefairies is a half-sister to the Middle Park Stakes scorer and sire Dream Ahead, out of Flying Childers Stakes winner Land Of Dreams. She in turn is out of Group 3-winning juvenile and Lowther Stakes third Sahara Star.

With entries in the Moyglare Stud Stakes, Cheveley Park Stakes and Fillies' Mile, Fairyland looks a likely candidate to become a third elite winner for Kodiac - whose second came when Best Solution landed the Grosser Preis von Berlin at Hoppegarten earlier this month.
