DahlBury goes to €205,000 to secure Quilita in Goffs Online Sale
The Lomitas mare is the dam of Triumph Hurdle winner Quilixios
Simon Davies' DahlBury went to €205,000 to acquire its latest high-profile mare on Tuesday, Quilita, the dam of 2021 Triumph Hurdle winner Quilixios who was sold online by Goffs.
Having purchased last year's Queen Mother Champion Chase winner Put The Kettle On and the Grade 2-winning hurdler Miss Heritage in recent months at public auction, Davies went well into six figures to secure a mare who has produced a dual Grade 1-winning hurdler in the Cheveley Park-owned Quilixios.
Consigned by Oghill House Stud on behalf of owner Sean Martin, the daughter of Lomitas is likely to next visit York Stakes and Classic Trial winner Bangkok, who stood his first season at Chapel Stud this year.
Davies said: “Quilita appealed to us as a quality mare with a proven ability to breed Grade 1 performers, and as such she fits what we're trying to achieve here at DahlBury.
"We're continually investing in our broodmare band to support our stallions and have been delighted with the calibre of mares that have visited Bangkok, Planteur and Walzertakt this spring.
"She'll join last week’s Goffs UK August sale-topper Miss Heritage, as well as Put The Kettle On, who we purchased at the Aintree Sale and is now successfully in foal to Planteur, at DahlBury."
He added: "Quilita is our third big purchase from Goffs and we've found the process very straightforward and transparent.
"She's in foal to an exciting young stallion in Waldgeist and she should suit Bangkok, who is a tremendously good-looking individual and has been well supported in his first season."
Joe Burke, representing the vendors, said: “The whole team at Goffs did a fantastic job in facilitating the sale of Quilita, from organising the videos all the way thorough to the actual online sale, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome.”
Goffs Group chief executive Henry Beeby added: "We're grateful to the vendors for their trust and especially appreciative of Simon Davies of DahlBury as this is the third high-profile broodmare he has bought from our sales this year. We wish him every success with them."
The 12-year-old Quilita is also responsible for three winners on the Flat in Queen Of Rome, Queen Constantine and Colour Sergeant.
Her three-year-old daughter by Exceed And Excel, Queen Cathrin, is in training with Stefan Richter in Germany, while Naomi's Charm, by Charm Spirit, has been placed at two for Karl Burke this season. Quilita has a yearling filly by Make Believe.
A Group-placed performer when second in the Hamburger Stuten-Preis, Quilita was also third in the Listed Diana Trial and is out of an unraced Intikhab half-sister to Group 1 Grosser Preis von Baden and dual Gran Premio di Milano winner Quijano, and to the dam of Group 2 Oleander-Rennen winner Quian.
Under the fourth dam is Prix Cleopatre winner Brooklyn's Dance, the dam of Arc heroine Solemia as well as dual Group winner and Prix du Jockey Club second Prospect Park, and Gold Dodger, the second dam of French 2,000 Guineas and Sussex Stakes winner The Gurkha.
