Comedy provides cheap laughs with Prix de Cabourg victory

Comedy made it three wins on the bounce and won at stakes level for the first time in Sunday's Darley Prix de Cabourg at Deauville.

Owned by David Redvers, Alastair Donald and Barbara Keller, the filly made all under Ben Curtis for trainer Karl Burke to win the six furlong contest, beating favourite Kodyanna by two lengths, with We Go another length and three quarters behind in third.

The result was extra satisfying for those concerned, with Comedy having been bought for only €21,000 from the Newtown Lodge Stud draft of the Goffs Sportsmans Sale last September. She was subsequently withdrawn from April's Goffs UK Breeze-Up Sale.

Part-owner David Redvers tweeted: "Huge result and some fun to win the Prix Cabourg Gr3 today with our rocket filly COMEDY bought for just €21k @Goffs1866 Sportsman sale. Thank you @karl_burke and such fun to share her with @hasenacher @SackvilleDonald."

In victory, Comedy became the eighth stakes winner, and fourth at Group level, for Ballyhane Stud's Dandy Man. Represented to best effect by the now-retired Hong Kong star Peniaphobia, he stood for a fee of €10,000 this year.

Darley's sponsorship of the race forms part of a new Darley Series initiative, which saw the breeding giant also back last week Prix Robert Papin, with the two races building into the Prix Morny.

As an added bonus for Redvers, Donald and Keller, Comedy's win secured their invitations to next year's Darley stallion parade at Dalham Hall.
