Betfair Hurdle runner-up Magic Dancer among those on offer at Ascot July Sale

Fifteen National Hunt stores by the likes of Mahler and Black Sam Bellamy and a consignment of Godolphin horses-in-training feature among more than 160 lots on offer at Tuesday’s Ascot July Sale.

The event features a cross-section of talent including a handful of Flat-bred two-year-olds, but there is a distinct National Hunt leaning as advertised by its most notable graduate, the 2012 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle winner Cinders And Ashes, who was offered a year earlier before continuing his career with Donald McCain.

Last year’s top lot of 37,000gns was from the Flat sphere, with an unraced juvenile daughter of Showcasing from the family of smart sprinter Moss Vale being knocked down to Howson & Houldsworth Bloodstock.

THREE LOTS TO WATCH

56 - Magic Dancer by Norse Dancer ex King’s Siren (King’s Best)

Offered by trainer Kerry Lee, he was runner-up in the 2015 Lingfield Derby Trial and has gone on to win twice over hurdles at Cheltenham. Most notably, he was second in this year’s Betfair Hurdle.

108 - Get Up Them Steps by Excelebration ex Flag Day (Pivotal)

Wildcard who won a Stratford bumper in good style for John O’Shea last month, with runner-up Vinnie's Getaway subsequently scoring by 12 lengths at the same track.

109 - Jinsha by Presenting ex Golden Sunbird (Bob Back)

Wildcard who was second on her recent debut at Worcester for Peter Fahey’s Roefield Stables. Dam Golden Sunbird was a Listed bumper and hurdle winner who placed in the David Nicholson at Cheltenham.

The unraced stores arrive in a sequence midway through the session and include a number of interest. Becknell Lane's Mahler filly (lot 100) is a half-sister to the Swinton Hurdle winner War Sound, from a dynasty of good chasers trained by Philip Hobbs and owned by Christopher Lloyd-Baker including Planet Of Sound and From Dawn To Dusk.

There is also a Gamut gelding, offered by Glebe Barn (98), who is closely related to Simply Dashing, Tim Easterby's chaser who locked horns with giants of the late 90s such as See More Business and Cyfor Malta.

Godolphin had 14 lots left in the sale prior to publication, and the consignment is likely to be eagerly anticipated by buyers. Perhaps the best known of them is Race Day (76) a six-year-old Dubawi gelding who was second at the most recent Dubai World Cup Carnival. Maracay (70), another Dubawi, is an unraced three-year-old gelding from a good family.

Other Flat entries include an unraced two-year-old filly by Lope De Vega (62), a wildcard from Ralph Beckett's Kimpton Down Stables who is the first foal of Listed-placed Majenta, while Acclamation colt Chattanooga Boy (47) won a juvenile event at Leicester for George Scott earlier this season.
