Aidan O'Brien to unleash a string of juvenile talent at Naas on Wednesday
Keeneland sale-topper and Group 1 siblings among his runners
As yearlings continue to go through the ring for mind-boggling sums at Keeneland, last year’s sales-topper makes his introduction to racing on a fascinating card at Naas on Wednesday.
St James’s Square, who led trading in 2018 when bought for $2.4 million by Coolmore, is a War Front colt out of Bob Baffert’s Grade 1 winner Streaming, from the direct family of two Belmont Stakes winners in Jazil and Rags To Riches.
Whether Aidan O’Brien could direct the youngster Stateside one day remain to be seen, but Wayne Lordan’s mount faces a clash over the seven-furlong trip with another beautifully-bred War Front from his own stable in the .
John Magnier’s mother, Evie Stockwell, owns Battle Of Liege, and he is a full brother of several to have made an impact in her light blue and chocolate silks. Donnacha O’Brien partners the sibling of both Hit It A Bomb, the 2015 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner, and Brave Anna, who landed the Albany and the Cheveley Park.
In the next event, the , O’Brien sets to motion an equally interesting prospect in Eden Quay, a No Nay Never filly out of Exceed And Excel mare Seeking Solace.
Just for good measure, the seven-furlong also features a rich seam of pedigrees.
O’Brien’s trio are Elizabethofaragon, a Galileo full sister of late Racing Post (now Vertem Futurity) winner Kingsbarns, another Galileo from the family of Power and Curvy by the name of Emerald Green, and Fancy Blue, a daughter of Deep Impact out of High Chapparal’s sister Chenchikova.
This race is certainly not an O’Brien private competition as Ger Lyons unveils Juddmonte filly Brinjal, a Kingman half-sister to Group 1 mares Passage Of Time and Timepiece.
