Moohaajim records first winner as Moojim lands Thirsk opener

Moohaajim is the latest freshman sire off the mark after his son Moojim won the opening novice stakes at Thirsk on Saturday afternoon.

Trained by Bryan Smart, Moojim was just a neck second behind Ginger Nuts in the Weatherbys Super Sprint on his most recent run and was well supported to get off the mark at Thirsk.

Bred by John Halton and partners, Moojim comes from a precocious dam line, he is the first foal out of Omanome, a winner over six furlongs at two for Halton.

A daughter of Acclamation, her second dam is the Group 2 Lowther Stakes winner Dance Sequence, who was also placed in the Queen Mary and Cherry Hinton Stakes, both Group 3 contests at the time.

Dance Sequence is out of Dancing Tribute who was placed in the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes and is also the dam of Group 2 Norfolk Stakes victor Souvenir Copy. It is also the family of Grade 1 performers Setsuko, Indy Dancer and Gold Tribute.

Consigned by Rathbarry Stud, where Moohajim stands, at the 2016 Goffs November Foal Sale Moojim was sold for €8,000 to MS Bloodstock. He was next seen at last year's Goffs UK Silver Yearling Sale when Bryan Smart purchased him for £30,000.

Moohaajim was bred by Lady Chryss O'Reilly's Castlemartin Sky and Skymarc Farm and shares his sire Cape Cross with Derby and Arc heroes Sea The Stars and Golden Horn. A 200,000gns buy at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale for trainer Marco Botti, Moohaajim raced in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and was a classy juvenile.

He won the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes over six furlongs and finished second in the Middle Park Stakes in his last run as a two-year-old. He was third in the Group 3 Greenham Stakes on his seasonal reappearance at three but raced just once more.

He is the first foal out of Thiella, a winner over seven furlongs and a mile and daughter of Kingmambo, who is a potent force as a broodmare sire. She is a half-sister to the Grade 3 winner Niagara Causeway by Giant's Causeway. Their dam Theoretically won the Group 3 CL Weld Park Stakes and was placed in both the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. Theoretically is a half-sister to Cudas, victorious in the Group 1 Prix Lupin.

Moohaajim stood the 2018 breeding season at a €4,000 fee.
