Proper Beau looked a useful prospect at Musselburgh

Brazen Beau’s instant impression as a stallion in Australia was replicated on the other side of the world on Tuesday with the victory of his first British runner.

Darley’s shuttler, who divides his time between Dalham Hall and Northwood Park in Victoria, has already had three southern hemisphere wins. Two of these have been provided by Accession, a hardy performer for Chris Waller who has collected a Listed win in the Inglis Nursery at Randwick and second in the lucrative Inglis Millennium, and another strike by Godolphin’s Tassort, a Group 2 runner-up in the Silver Slipper.

Brazen Beau, a grandson of Invincible Spirit via I Am Invincible, was the champion three-year-old colt in Australia with wins in both the Coolmore Stud Stakes and Newmarket Handicap before chasing home Undrafted in the 2015 Diamond Jubilee Stakes. He stands for £7,000 at Dalham Hall this year.

His son Proper Beau looked a sharp sort in the Watch Racing TV Now Novice Stakes at Musselburgh. Bred by Aston House Stud out of the five times-winning Pivotal mare Olivia Grace, he was picked up for 34,000gns by his trainer Bryan Smart at Tattersalls Book 3 last October. Smartly into stride, he got into a bit of a barging match with hot favourite Alminoor before besting his rival by a neck.

"He’s always shown us a little bit at home, what’s been nice is he’s been virtually horizontal at home, very laid back," Smart told Racing TV. "He’s carrying a fair bit of condition as well, he’s that type of horse, so I’m over the moon.

"We’d all love to go to Royal Ascot, but I think we’ll mind him, we’ll see where we go. I’ll probably look at a conditions race or something like that. He’s won his £10,000 bonus, his owners have had a good start and so have I."

Just 15 minutes later at Lingfield, his fellow freshman stallion Cable Bay got off the mark. By Invincible Spirit, the Dewhurst runner-up and Group 2 Challenge Stakes winner has been standing for £6,500 at Highclere Stud and has 113 representatives of racing age.

His daughter Electric Ladyland was his very first runner to hit the track. Trained by Archie Watson, she showed plenty of application to land the Ladbrokes Novice Median Auction Stakes by two lengths.

Electric Ladyland carries the colours of Emily Asprey and Chris Wright, who enjoyed notable success with Rathasker Stud's 2018 sire sensation Bungle IntheJungle. She was also bred by Rathasker out of the fairly decent Thousand Words mare Conversational and bought for €35,000 by Blandford Bloodstock at last year's Goffs Sportsmans Sale.
