Jockey explained that his instructions were to ride the gelding as he found him although he understood it was to achieve the best possible placing. He stated that due to the fast early pace he dropped to the rear of the field and into the kickback which the gelding didn't face, which he reported at Scales, and lost even further ground. He added that despite asking the gelding for his effort rounding the bend, he made little progress so he rode him in the home straight under hands and heels passing tiring rivals which had gone hard early on) (op 17/2)
