IF THERE’S an upside to getting things so badly wrong in midweek it’s that today’s job has become much easier as I can now simply regurgitate what I originally wrote for the Weekender on Wednesday.

For those of you who don’t read the Weekender – £3.10 on a Wednesday from all good newsagents (and no doubt some crap ones too) – my initial intention was to make Saphir Du Rheu a maximum bet for the Sodexo Gold Cup (3.35) at Ascot and likewise for the bet365 West Yorkshire Hurdle (2.45) at Wetherby.

Unfortunately, just minutes after delivering my copy on Tuesday, a press release arrived from Wetherby racecourse complete with quotes from SDR’s owner Andy Stewart indicating that he was “almost certain to go for the hurdle”.
