By Twilight Son, Cottam Lane looked pretty useful when winning a good ground Hamilton maiden in September and didn't appear to like testing conditions at York next time up. He showed plenty of coltish signs that day, too, so a gelding operation over the winter should have had the desired effect. An opening mark of 82 looks fair.
