Nottingham Placepot tips: Tom Segal with a manageable perm for tricky card
Richard Hannon has won the last two runnings of the juvenile maiden (4.40), that kicks off the Nottingham card, so no doubt Groom will be well fancied on his debut.
However, experience is usually a huge advantage at this time of the season and Meng Tian looks a safer choice for the Placepot.
He was well backed to win on debut and was only just touched off after showing a good change of gear.
There are some well-bred unraced horses from top stables in the following maiden (5.15), but Third Realm showed more than enough on his sole start as a juvenile to suggest he will win races this season. It's hard to see him being out of the frame.
Corbulo is up 7lb for his recent Bath win but he could improve again upped to 1m2f and is worth including in the Follow @racingtv On Twitter Handicap (5.45), but stick in Kalma too as she was unlucky not to go close on the all-weather last time.
Things get much tougher from there on in but Russian Virtue was a big eyecatcher after missing the break at Doncaster recently and will appreciate the step up to a mile. If all eight runners line up, he is worth banking on in the Visit racingtv.com Handicap (6.15).
The final two sprint handicaps take some sorting out and it's worth putting in a couple for each race.
Mark Johnston's Prospect looks handicapped up to the hilt but he's consistent and should hit the frame in the first of them (6.45), especially if first-time blinkers sharpen him up. Peerless is the other one for the perm, as he's unexposed at 5f and Oisin Murphy is booked.
Finally Good Earth is well treated on the best of his form and has to be included in the apprentice handicap (7.15), but he's making his reappearance and so Aguerooo, who has been in good form on the all-weather, has to go in as well.
