Punters rewarded for laying off Blue Suede
Essaka is such a frustrating gelding who has loads more ability than his rating of 56 suggests. For the third race in succession he finished runner-up after travelling well, this time after trading at 1.31 on Betfair in the 5f handicap at Bath won by Topsoil (70). He will surely add to his two wins before long, probably on a flatter track.
In the following 5f maiden, 16-1 shot Secret Potion held on well from the long odds-on Blue Suede (1.13) after trading at 50.
Mitch Godwin deserves plenty of credit for getting Cricklewood Green home through a narrow gap in the mile handicap at Brighton after his mount was matched at 120. Pour La Victoire, who was done at 1.16, ran out of steam close home and faded out of the places.
