It’s no surprise that Richard Newland is seeking to take advantage of West Of The Edge’s lower handicap mark over hurdles, and the recent dual chase winner can complete a hat-trick in Ayr’s Racing UK Day Pass Just £10 Handicap Hurdle (2.30).

Just the type of low-rated recruit with which Newland excels, the eight-year-old son of Westerner is unbeaten in two starts since joining the Grand National-winning trainer.

Heavily backed from 11-4 to 7-4 on his first start for the stable, West Of The Edge, whose principal attribute is stamina, was hard on the bridle three out and merely needed to be shaken up by Harry Skelton to slam Settledoutofcourt by seven lengths over 3m at Wetherby.
