Bartholomeu Dias one to look forward to at Lingfield on Saturday

Gunmetal won’t get in the Qatar Stewards’ Cup but the owners are quite keen to run in the consolation race (1.50), so he could head there.

When he won at Newmarket at the start of the season I really thought he’d go on, but he hasn’t shown that form again for one reason or another.

I’m sure the handicapper has a bit of a grip on him, but he’s come down a bit since last time.

Moorside could run in the Qatar Summer Handicap (2.25), although she’s also in the Listed British Stallion Studs EBF Chalice Stakes (2.05) at Newmarket on Saturday.

I’m quite keen to run her somewhere. She ran well in Ireland last time, finishing fourth in a Listed race, and I was pleased with that. I think if she can improve from that she should be thereabouts.

Shanghai Glory will get in the Stewards’ Cup (3.35) and the more rain they have the better for him. He’s just started to come to himself and did the same last year; he just improved in the second half of the season.

The ground was very quick when he ran in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot, but we needed to get a run into him.

Port Swtan is another who wouldn’t mind some cut and he’s a possible for the Qatar EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes (4.10).

He’s all right. I thought he ran a lovely race first time at Doncaster to finish third and we’ve given him some time since and waited for the rain. He worked nicely last week, so we’ll try to run him.

That’s also the plan for Musawaat, who is entered in the Qatar Handicap (4.45).

We’ve just been waiting for some rain for him too, so he’s ready to go and as soon as it’s soft he’ll run, but Rebel De Lope, who is also in that, would want conditions quicker.

Plutonian is in the Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes at Goodwood on Friday, but it does look a bit of a tall order whereas the Qatar Apprentice Handicap (5.20) on Saturday is the right trip for him; 1m1f will suit him right down to the ground.

He did look good when he won at Windsor but probably won a bit too well – by ten lengths – as he has a rating of 92 now, which is going to be hard work.

We’ve also got Grapevine in that and he’s in the Fly London Southend Airport To Prague Handicap (7.00) at Newmarket on Friday as well.

We’ll have a look at what appears the easier option and, while the handicapper might just have hold of him, I was pleased with his last run at Sandown. It was a much better performance, but it was just annoying he didn’t win at Newbury in April when it looked like he had the race in the bag and still got put up!

Chrisellaine is in contention to run in the Newmarket Equine Hospital EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes (3.15) at Newmarket.

She worked at Lingfield last week and we were happy with her. She’s ready for a run and is a nice filly who is closely related to a certain Chriselliam, who won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies’ Turf for us in 2013 and was one of the best horses I’ve trained.

We’ve also got Juliet Foxtrot in that race and she’s all right. She’s done well of late and I quite like her, so I’m hoping the race will divide and I can have one in each division.

Struck By The Moon is in Doncaster’s Unison And LV Liverpool Victoria Car Insurance Maiden Stakes (3.20), but I think there’s another race for her next week so we’ll have a look. She should stay well and will appreciate a bit of cut in the ground.

In contrast, Takatul wants it quick but he’s in the Unison Eric Roberts Memorial Handicap (4.30). It’s over 1m2f and Steve Drowne, who rode him last time, thought stepping up in trip might be an idea.

Exquisite Ruby, who is in Doncaster’s Unison Supporting Your Community Fillies’ Handicap (5.05), has hinted she’s got the ability to win a race somewhere so hopefully that’s the case.

The Big Short, who is in the Unison Campaigning For Public Services Handicap (5.35) on the card, wants fast ground, so we’ll keep an eye on conditions for him.

I’m leaning towards Lingfield’s Extra Place Races At 188Bet Novice Median Auction Stakes (7.15) on Saturday night for Bartholomeu Dias, who is one to look forward to.

The form of his Chesham fourth is smart after Mark Johnston’s Nyaleti, who was second, won the Princess Margaret in good style at Ascot last Saturday.

I like this horse. He’s going to stay well and we were conscious of giving him a bit of time after Royal Ascot as he had a hard race, which is what we’ve done. He’s had a chance to come on and you’d have to hope he’d be up to winning a race like this.
