The first two races of the day ended in remarkably similar protracted duels. In the 2m1/2f handicap hurdle at Fontwell, Magical Thomas got the better of Hermosa Vaquera, who traded at 1.22, while Escape The City was done at 1.12 in the fillies' auction maiden before going down by a neck to Autumn Leaves.
Barista traded at a high-looking 200 on his way to winning the mile handicap at Salisbury.
Gingli, who was backed at 36, needed every yard of the 3m2f handicap chase at Fontwell to wear down Rockchasebullet, who was matched at 1.23.
