Top Australian sire Not A Single Doubt retired after pulmonary disease diagnosis
Arrowfield-based son of Redoute's Choice has supplied 11 Group 1 winners
Not A Single Doubt, one of Australia’s leading stallions, has been retired from covering duty by Arrowfield following a diagnosis of pulmonary disease, which has shown no improvement despite treatment.
John Messara, chairman of Arrowfield, said of Not A Single Doubt: “He suffers respiratory compromise at rest and even short periods of hand walking exacerbate this.
“Our head vet has advised that Not A Single Doubt is incapable of performing his breeding duties and accordingly he has been retired from active service.”
The first-crop son of breed-shaping champion sire Redoute’s Choice was bred at Arrowfield, and is out of Singles Bar, a daughter of Rory’s Jester and the famed producer Easy Date.
Not A Single Doubt, who covered 94 mares in 2019 at a career-high fee of A$110,000 (£57,925/€67,945), has sired 11 Group 1 winners, including Extreme Choice, Kenedna, Miracles Of Life, Scales Of Justice and Secret Agenda.
His stud career, which began in 2005, has yielded 69 Group and Listed winners, including 25 juvenile stakes scorers, with those black type successes coming over distances ranging from 5f to 13f.
He was the leading Australian-based sire by worldwide prize-money earnings during the 2015-16 season, has been a top ten sire of juveniles since 2011 and is currently third on the Australian 2019-20 two-year-old sires’ table.
Messara added: “Not A Single Doubt is a wonderful story for Arrowfield and for many breeders, owners, buyers and trainers, rising from the bottom of our roster to become one of Australia’s most popular and successful stallions.
“We are immensely grateful to him, and he will be loved and cared for at Arrowfield for the rest of his life.”
