Isabella Giles took a step forward from her victory in the Prestige Stakes to strike in a fascinating renewal of the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket on Friday.

The Clive Cox-trained filly provided Darley's first-season Belardo with his first Group success at Goodwood in August and showed plenty of courage to deny Nazuna by two lengths on the Rowley Mile.

Belardo, who stands at Kildangan Stud, has enjoyed a fine start to his second career with seven individual winners. Also among his leading progeny at this stage is Lullaby Moon, third in the Group 3 Firth of Clyde Fillies' Stakes, and the Listed-placed Bell I Am, out of the winning Oasis Dream mare Adroit.

Isabella Giles, a €45,000 purchase from the Goffs Sportsman's sale last year, is out of Majestic Dubawi, a winner of the Firth of Clyde Stakes, and is her fifth foal overall. A half-brother by Nathaniel, consigned as lot 269 by Ballylinch Stud, will sell at the Goffs Orby Sale next week, while the mare was sent to Waldgeist.

It was an equally good day for Belardo's sire, Lope De Vega, whose Antonia De Vega landed the Princess Royal Muhaarar Stakes earlier on the card, providing a timely boost given her full-sister sells as lot 473 from Ballylinch Stud at the Orby.

It was a second Group success for the four-year-old daughter of Lope De Vega, who landed the Prestige Stakes at two and has followed up with two Listed wins since.

The first foal from the winning Duke Of Marmalade mare Witches Brew, her full-sister Marie De Vega has been placed twice in France.

Witches Brew has since produced two fillies by Lope De Vega and returned to the leading stallion this year.
