Tattersalls Cheltenham January Sale top lot set for Newbury debut on Saturday
Weveallbeencaught was a winning pointer at Dromahane in December
Weveallbeencaught, the sale topper at the Tattersalls Cheltenham January Sale when making £210,000 to owner Jimmy Wenman, will make his racecourse debut for Nigel Twiston-Davies in the concluding bumper at Newbury (4.47pm) on Saturday.
The son of Getaway was bred by Conor Murphy and was a three-length winner of his four-year-old maiden point-to-point at Dromahane in December for Michael Kennedy, before his sale-topping purchase by Cheltenham racecourse regular Wenham.
He is the third foal out of the winning hurdler Curvacious, an Anshan half-sister to the multiple winning hurdler Knighton Lad and from the family of useful staying chaser Hatcham Boy.
Wenman said of his purchase in January: "I think he’s the best horse in the sale, an absolute film star of a horse. He’s an out and out stayer and I’ve given him to a top-class trainer in Nigel Twiston-Davies, who specialises in top-class chasers. One day, please God, he will come up the Cheltenham hill for me.
“Nigel's trained lots of winners for me so I've bought the horse with a friend of mine, Edward James. I live in Romford but I come to most meetings at Cheltenham with my wife. I was born here and my ambition is to have a Cheltenham winner.”
Kennedy, who consigned him at the sale, added: “He’s a smasher, we broke him in and brought him along nicely and we were hoping he’d sell well. It was always the plan to race him and we have a couple from the family. It’s a good family and I think you’ll see a lot more winners from them over the coming years.”
The five-year-old is set to face eight rivals on his debut under rules, including the Paul Nicholls-trained Captain Destiny, a Kapgarde half-brother to the likes of Listed-winning hurdler and Grade 1-placed Papagana and another black-type winner in French performer News Reel.
Captain Destiny was second to the well-regarded Authorised Speed over course and distance, while other runners include the twice-placed Samourai One, Emma Lavelle's Montmartre half-brother to American Graded performer Hayabusa One and the black type-placed French hurdler and chaser Katana One, Fontwell scorer Hardy Fella and 11-length Exeter winner Firestream, a Yeats full-brother to Kennel Gate Novices' Hurdle victor Master Debonair.
Also in opposition will be fellow point-to-point and sale ring graduate Collectors Item, who was runner-up to Lookaway at Kildorrery in November - the winner has himself recently won a bumper at Newbury for the Neil King yard after selling well at Yorton Farm.
Collectors Item went through the ring at the Tattersalls Cheltenham December Sale, where O'Neill and Stroud Coleman acquired him for £115,000. He makes his debut under rules for Jackdaws Antiques. By Flemensfirth out of Fraam's daughter Leading Lady, he is a brother to three winners including the useful Royal Kahala.
