Scat Daddy son Seahenge to take up stallion role in France
Champagne Stakes scorer to stand at Haras de la Haie Neuve
The ranks of stallion sons of Scat Daddy in Europe are growing again, as last year's Champagne Stakes winner Seahenge is joining the roster at Haras de la Haie Neuve in Brittany from next year.
A $750,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase by Coolmore, Seahenge was trained by Aidan O'Brien to win on his juvenile debut at Naas and later that season defeated Hey Gaman to take the Champagne Stakes before filling third position behind US Navy Flag in the Dewhurst.
This year at three Seahenge was third in the Listed Patton Stakes and was last seen finishing down the field in the Sword Dancer Stakes at Saratoga.
The colt was bred by K & G Stables out of the stakes winning Not For Love mare Fools In Love, a half-sister to Louisiana Derby winner International Star from the family of Group 2 winner and sire Van Nistelrooy.
Scat Daddy, who passed away at Ashford Stud in Kentucky aged only 11 in December 2015, is proving to be a major force in pedigrees worldwide.
He has supplied 26 Group/Grade 1 winners including in Chile, where he is held in the same regard as Galileo, and his celebrity offspring include Caravaggio, Justify, Lady Aurelia and Mendelssohn.
His final two-year-old crop is throwing up a galaxy of stars, among them Sunday's Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Skitter Scatter and fellow stakes scorers Sergei Prokofiev, So Perfect and Van Beethoven.
Scat Daddy's outstanding son No Nay Never is now turning heads as a first-season sire, with more than 20 winners to his name including Richmond Stakes victor Land Force and the exciting Ten Sovereigns.
Seahenge will be the second son of Scat Daddy at stud in France after Seabhac, whose retirement to Haras de Saint-Arnoult was announced last month.
A fee for Seahenge, who will stand alongside fellow former Ballydoyle inmates Pedro The Great and Whitecliffsofdover at Haie Neuve, will be announced at a later date.
