Group 2-winning sprinter Mattmu to return to birthplace at Bearstone Stud
The son of Indesatchel has made a promising start with his first runners
Group 2-winning sprinter Mattmu, who was born and raised at Bearstone Stud, will return to his place of birth for the 2022 breeding season.
The son of former Bearstone Stud resident Indesatchel, Mattmu has sired two individual winners of four races from five runners, including Favourite Child, a two-time winner who was beaten just a nose into second in a French Listed race late last month.
Mattmu was a high-class performer for Tim Easterby and owner James Bowers, winning on his fourth start at two before climbing up the grades to finish his juvenile campaign with success in the Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte and Rockingham Stakes.
A close second on his three-year-old debut in the Clipper Logistics Stakes, and in the Chipchase Stakes, Mattmu then won the Phoenix Sprint Stakes before a fine third in the Nunthorpe behind Mecca's Angel.
Mattmu was also third in the Abernant Stakes at Newmarket on his first start at four, before concluding his career with a win in the Great St Wilfrid Handicap at Ripon as a five-year-old.
Bearstone Stud owner Terry Holdcroft said: “Mattmu has impressed us with the quality of his stock and his early results indicate he is capable of upgrading his mares.
"We are delighted to welcome him back to the stud where he was born and believe he deserves the opportunity to cover a larger book of mares and build on his early success.”
Mattmu will join Dream Ahead and Washington DC at Bearstone Stud, where he will stand for a fee of £2,500.
