Demarchelier, a beautifully bred Grade 3 winner by Dubawi, will join the stallion roster at Claiborne Farm in Kentucky next year.

The three-year-old was bought for 425,000gns by Peter Brant's White Birch Farm from the draft of breeder Newsells Park Stud at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.

His pedigree will have been a big draw, as he is out of Loveisallyouneed, an unraced Sadler's Wells sister to Group 1 winners Quarter Moon and Yesterday.

Quarter Moon is the dam of Pretty Polly Stakes heroine Diamondsandrubies and granddam of high-class Eminent.

It is a family replete with top-flight winners, including Albanova, Alborada, Allegretto, Aussie Rules and Coronet.

Demarchelier upheld family honour in training with Chad Brown, winning on debut at Aqueduct at two and kicking off his three-year-old campaign with a decisive allowance victory at Keeneland.

He made it three wins from as many starts with victory in the Grade 3 Pennine Ridge Stakes over nine furlongs at Belmont Park in June, with the subsequent Belmont Derby one-two Henley's Joy and Social Paranoia in behind.

Demarchelier was pulled up in the Belmont Derby, after taking a bad step near the half-mile marker and being given a protective ride by Javier Castellano.

“Demarchelier had as much talent and turn of foot as any young turf colt I've trained to date,” said Chad Brown. “He's outstanding looking, precocious, and has a great mind. I'll certainly be in the marketplace buying his offspring for years to come."

Brant added: “I think a lot of people will be intrigued by his pedigree, but I really can’t wait for people to see him. He’s a very special horse. A real specimen.

“He could get a great grass horse certainly, but he also has the influences of great American sires such as Seeking The Gold and Mr Prospector that could also result in some great dirt horses.

“Choosing Claiborne as the place to stand Demarchelier was a natural fit. Not only are a lot of my mares there, but they also have a long history of success in making great sires with international appeal. We’ll certainly be breeding a lot of our mares to Demarchelier.”

Demarchelier will become the first major North American-based stallion son of Dubawi, the source of 41 Group/Grade 1 winners including Al Kazeem, Makfi and Poet's Voice, who have sired elite scorers themselves.

Dubawi is also the sire of Night Of Thunder, who has made a big impression with his debut two-year-old crop in Europe this season.

“We’re thrilled to add Demarchelier to our stallion roster,” said Claiborne Farm representative Bernie Sams. “His name may be tough to say, but it’s easy to see why we wanted him.

“He’s the only son of Dubawi in Kentucky, he has Group 1 black type all over his page, he was undefeated in his first three races, and he looks the part. He took a bad step in the Belmont Derby that cut his career short, but that’s not going to stop him from passing this incredible bloodline along in the breeding shed.”

Demarchelier’s introductory stud fee will be announced around the Breeders’ Cup.
