Axxos, a Group 2-winning son of Monsun, has been purchased to stand alongside Falco and Sun Central at James and Amelia Gray's new property, Hundred Acre Farm in Lincolnshire.

First based in France and most recently at Coolagown Stud in Ireland, the 16-year-old has done well from limited numbers as the sire of three British chase winners, headed by smart Nigel Twiston-Davies pair Calett Mad and Earlofthecotwolds.

Axxos has also produced fillies including Epine Noire, a four-year-old hurdle winner for Guillaume Macaire, and David Bridgwater's Dame Du Soir.

James Gray, who operates under the Elusive Bloodstock banner, said: "Axxos is a gorgeous stamp with a great walk, standing at 16.1 hands he will suit most mares. His temperament is superb and he has never sired a chestnut foal, adding to his appeal.

"He is a horse I have followed for a while and, with two good books of mares covered in Ireland, I felt now was the right time to acquire him. He will not lack support from our own broodmare band and we look forward to supporting the breeders that breed to him at the sales in the future."

The stallion won the Group 2 Oppenheim-Union-Rennen and was second in the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris, adding another Group race in Italy as a four-year-old. By Monsun out of a Rainbow Quest mare, Axxos was bred by Gestut Ittlingen from a top German family.

The deal was brokered by agent Richard Venn, who was also behind another notable stallion transfer.

Weltstar, Gestut Rottgen's homebred son of Soldier Hollow who emulated his half-brother Windstoss by winning the 2018 German Derby, is heading for Haras de Longechaux near Besancon in France.
