A star is born as Quorto follows in Dubawi's footsteps in Superlative Stakes
The colt also gave Mount Nelson a first black-type winner as damsire
Quorto proved himself a chip off the old block when landing the Group 2 bet365 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday, as his sire, the brilliant Dubawi, landed the contest back in 2004 when it was run as a Group 3.
The two-year-old colt, who took his record to two wins from as many starts, also provided Dubawi with his 101st Group winner, with the son of Dubai Millennium having brought the century up with Crown Walk in the Prix Chloe at Chantilly on Monday.
William Buick always had Quorto in a handy position, and once asked he quickened up smartly approaching the final furlong to draw three and three-quarter lengths clear of Cape Of Good Hope, a brother to Highland Reel and Idaho.
After a below par run in the Yorkshire Oaks time was called on Volume's racing career, with her next public appearance coming at the 2014 Tattersalls December Mares Sale, where John Ferguson went to 700,000gns on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed's operation.
Despite that huge sum Volume was, in fact, only the eighth highest price at that year's sale, which was topped by Just The Judge, who went the way of Qatar Racing and China Horse Club for 4,500,000gns.
The seven-year-old Volume is out of Victoire Finale, a winning daughter of Peintre Celebre, and is a sibling to four winners, notably her Group 3-placed half-brother Velox.
In turn Victoire Finale is out of Victoire Bleue, a Wildenstein homebred and the dam of Group 2 winner and former Blackhall Stud sire Vertical Speed.
Quorto also gave Mount Nelson, whose oldest daughters are eight, a first stakes winner as a damsire.
The Boardsmill Stud-based son of Rock Of Gibraltar has become a rising force in the National Hunt ranks thanks to the likes of Penhill and Allee Bleue, though has also sired talents such as Librisa Breeze and Berkshire on the Flat.
