Discovery Island tops Dubai September Sale at AED 600,000
Dubawi gelding has been placed several times for Charlie Appleby
Godolphin's Discovery Island topped the Azizi Developments Racing in Dubai Sale on Saturday when selling for AED 600,000 (£128,000) to Satish Seemar.
The Dubawi gelding, who was placed on four of his five starts for Charlie Appleby, was one of two lots who went the way of the UAE's champion trainer, who also struck the winning bid for Ice Cave, a winning son of Shamardal.
Ahmad bin Harmash went to AED 460,000 for another son of Dubawi in Imperial Empire. The three-year-old had struck in a nursery at Sandown on his penultimate start for Appleby.
Among the other lots to reach six-figure prices were the Kodiac gelding Barber Of Seville, a maiden winner at Catterick for John Gosden who also went the way of Bin Harmash for 440,000, the twice-raced Tolmount, who was purchased by leading trainer Salem bin Ghadayer for 380,000, and Dubai World Cup Carnival winner Nordic Lights, who was knocked down for 120,000 to Mohammed Raid Mohammed Hicham Gharib.
The sale, which took place at the saddling enclosure at Meydan, saw 52 lots sold for a total of AED 5,716,600 (£1,216,000). The results are available to view here.
