Whitsbury Manor Stud announces birth of first Sergei Prokofiev foals
Whitsbury Manor Stud has welcomed in the first couple of foals by resident stallion Sergei Prokofiev, which were born over the last two days.
The son of Scat Daddy, a $1,100,000 yearling from a sharp American family, joined the Hampshire operation after his career with Aidan O'Brien. The winner of three stakes or Group races is set to begin his second season at stud from a fee of £6,000.
Whitsbury stud director Ed Harper said: "We are delighted to report our first two foals by Sergei Prokofiev, both out of maiden mares.
"Last night our team delivered a smart filly from Hand On My Heart, a winning half-sister to our Queen Mary winner Heartache. The night before, we received a colt out of dual winning sprinter Silver Machine, a half-sister to stakes winning sprinter Dave Dexter.
"Without wishing to sound like a typically over enthusiastic stallion manager, both foals are a good size for maidens with plenty of depth through the chest. In addition to being good sorts, they give an indication of the quality of mares that Sergei Prokofiev received in his strong first book and we are looking forward to more of the same."
