Updates abound as siblings to La Pelosa and Lady Kaya head to September Sale

Few things bring a smile to a vendor's face like a major pedigree update on the eve of an auction, and two lots at Wednesday's session of the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale have seen their pages receive elite-level enhancements.

First up comes lot 475, an Excelebration half-brother to Lady Kaya, who is simply listed as having "placed once at 2 years".

However, since the catalogue's publication the daughter of Dandy Man has not only broken her maiden - which she did by ten lengths from Latrobe's sister and subsequent winner Pink Dogwood - but also finished a fine second to Skitter Scatter in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes on her most recent outing.

The colt was pinhooked through Stroud Coleman Bloodstock, who signed the ticket at €26,000 at last year's Goffs November Foal Sale, and will be offered on Wednesday by Kitty Cowhey's Loughmore Stables

"I was absolutely thrilled about the update," said Cowhey. "You can only really hope for these sort of things, but to get an update like that was just fantastic.

"He's a lovely individual, very athletic and easy moving," Cowhey continued. "He's strengthened a lot since we got him and he's very athletic on the lunge. He certainly looks a runner.

"There's lots to like about him and he's been very popular since he got here. He took his prep very well, everything has been straightforward and he's behaved exceptionally well since he got here. We couldn't be happier with him."

Around an hour later it will be lot 502's turn to come under the hammer, with the Hallowed Crown half-sister to La Pelosa, winner of the Grade 1 Natalma Stakes on her most recent outing, due to be offered by Railstown Stud on behalf of equine nutritionist Tim Bourke.

Bourke pinhooked the filly for just €7,000 at the Goffs November Foal Sale, at which point La Pelosa was merely an unnamed yearling who had been bought back by Tally-Ho Stud at €40,000.

"I liked her presence in the ring and couldn't believe I got her for just €7,000," said Bourke. "She's blossomed since I got her and I've liked her more each day I've had her.

"It was something else watching her half-sister win the Grade 1, I was so impressed with her performance there, she finishes her races so well. Hopefully this filly will catch the attention of some of the big buyers. To get an update like this a week before the sale, it couldn't have worked out any better."

Despite her modest pinhooking price, the filly boasted a quality page even before La Pelosa landed a Grade 1. Her dam, the Bushranger mare Lauren's Girl, is a half-sister to the Group 3-winning Perugina and the Group 3-placed Sovana, who is better known as the dam of the Group winners Bocca Baciata, Topeka and Kalsa.

"She's a lovely quality filly," said Railstown Stud's Francis Quinn. "The pedigree update has been fantastic. With La Pelosa being placed in the Albany Stakes it looked as though there was a chance of getting a nice update, but what happened in Canada the other day was just amazing. Hopefully that can translate into money in the ring.

"She's been very straightforward to prep, she has a good mind so she's taken it all in her stride and nothing's been a problem to her. She's a nice filly so she should sell herself."
