Subjectivist makes it a weekend Group 1 double for Teofilo in Prix Royal-Oak
The Mark Johnston-trained colt is a close relation to Sir Ron Priestley
Subjectivist provided the red-hot Teofilo with a second Group 1 winner in 24 hours after seeing off hot favourite Valia in the Prix Royal-Oak at Longchamp on Sunday.
The front-running three-year-old was providing his sire and trainer Mark Johnston with another top-level success after juvenile Gear Up's gritty win in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud on Saturday.
A 20th individual Group 1 winner for Darley's stallion, the Mascalls Stud-bred Subjectivist is the third foal out of winning Danehill Dancer mare Reckoning and a close relation to last year's St Leger second Sir Ron Priestley, another trained by Johnston.
For good measure, Teofilo also featured as broodmare sire with Mac Swiney's Vertem Futurity Trophy win at Doncaster and Flying Visit's Eyrefield Stakes strike at Leopardstown on Saturday.
Teofilo, who stands at Kildangan Stud and whose 2020 fee was €40,000, has now sired five Group 1 winners this year, a figure beaten globally only by his own sire Galileo.
Exultant was named Hong Kong horse of the season with two of his five top-flight triumphs coming this year, while Tawkeel became one of France’s leading three-year-old fillies with a wide-margin victory in the Prix Saint Alary. Donjah won her first Group 1 in the Preis von Europa in August.
Subjectivist's Prix Royal-Oak triumph provided a nice boost for half-sister Alba Rose, also owned by Dr Jim Walker and who last seen finishing a respectable third behind Isabella Giles in the Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket.
A 62,000gns purchase from Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in 2018, when consigned by New England Stud, Subjectivist was adding to his Listed and Group 3 wins this summer, including a 15-length romp in the March Stakes at Goodwood in August.
The 11-year-old Reckoning produced a filly by Ulysses in 2019, with a Roaring Lion colt on the ground this year. She visited young Darley stallion Too Darn Hot this time around.
